The Ridge, an ideal sightseeing spot in Shimla, is a large clearing along The Mall Road and Lakkar Bazaar from east to west. It is counted amongst India’s cleanest areas. Even a small stroll in The Ridge gives the impression of being totally at some European destination, mostly due to the beautiful architecture that dates back to the British period. This is one of the not-to-miss encounters in Shimla. The toy train in Shimla, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, is a journey from a fairy tale. Traversing the mountain tunnels and beautiful valleys, the toy train runs between Kalka and Shimla and proffers the best sightseeing experience in Shimla. The journey covers some of the most picturesque stations around, including Barog, Solan, and Dharampura. Throughout the journey that passes through more than 100 tunnels and 860 bridges, the 96 km route is blessed with wonderful views that will captivate you.

This 30-minute hike along the path, full of lush forest and natural beauty, along with numerous mischievous monkeys, is surely going to enchant you. If that’s not enough, then the truly breathtaking view of the area, from the top of the hill, is something you can’t miss out on. Besides, there is a Jakhoo Temple atop the hill that is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Due to its religious significance and a large statue of Lord Hanuman, the shrine is one of the most famous temples in Shimla. Jakhoo Temple is also the location for the city’s largest Dussehra celebration.

  1. The historical Viceregal Lodge

Another British wonder designed by British architect Henry Irwin at Shimla hill station is the Viceregal Lodge. This magnificent building served as the summer residence of the Indian Viceroy, the head of the British Empire in India, from 1888 until Indian independence. Viceregal Lodge is located above Summer Hill, which is part of the Indian Institute of Advanced Technology’s estate. This historical building was renamed as Rashtrapati Niwas after Independence. In Viceregal Lodge, everything is so intact and perfect that it will certainly take you back in time. Also, there is a souvenir shop attached to the ticketing from where you can buy different items such as postcards. This place also has a lovely lawn where one can sit down after exploring the lodge to relax and adore the entire building’s mesmerizing view.
