In Search of 'Inner Peace' - Top 5 Peaceful Destinations in India

Author Sushant Published on July 27th 2019

When was the last time you took at least a day off for yourself? Was it an emergency or just to take a break? Usually, the latter isn't an answer considering the stressful lifestyle of today. However, what we don't realize is how travel is a perfect escape plan. And, when you're out to visit the most serene and amicable places, you enjoy every single moment leaving behind all the worries getting into the unknown. So, in search of inner peace, here are the top 5 peaceful destinations to explore in India.

1.   Lansdowne, Uttarakhand

To get away from the mundane and the daily hustle-bustle, take a weekend road trip to Lansdowne. It's a serene and scenic destination bestowed with natural beauty. There are several exhilarating things to do in this underrated hill station. Though it attracts more bike riders, it's also family-friendly. The drive or ride to Lansdowne is pleasant and serene.

What to do? Take a boat ride at Bhulla lake, relish the local Garhwali cuisine, take a religious tour to the temples, go for a nature walk in the dense pine and oak tree forest, trek to the Snow Viewpoint and watch the mesmerizing sunrise or sunset at the Tip-in-Top Point.

2.   Wayanad, Kerala

If there's Heaven on Earth, it's here. Wayanad is a blissful and a picturesque hill station in Southern Indian which shouldn't be a miss. Its beauty is beyond any words. The lush greens, misty roads, panoramic views, spectacular waterfalls, and trekking expeditions are worth experiencing.

What to do? Cherish the splendid sights of Neelimala Viewpoint, trek up to the foggy hills of Banasura Sagar Dam, stop at Lakkidi View Point (2296 ft. above the sea level) and visit Thirunelli Temple for spiritual cleansing. You'll just not want to come back home.

3.   Auroville, Tamil Nadu

Auroville is called the town of peace, harmony, and humanity. It's amongst the best known peaceful destinations in the country. The place is surrounded by lush green lawns. It is a preferred choice to go for yoga, meditation and healing courses in India. The town feels safe and cozy - no hierarchical order or any religious convictions.

What to do? Visit the Matrimandir, unwind at the Auroville Beach, hangout at the vegan-friendly restaurants or cafes, shop at the pop-up stalls and try sculpting, art, crafts, and yoga or meditation programs. It'll be a tranquilizing experience, for sure!

4.   Jibhi, Himachal Pradesh

Jibhi is a less explored paradise in the Himalayas. Whatever route you take, it all leads to breathtaking views, alpine meadows, as well as thin waterfalls. It's a soul-satisfying vacation destination for people from all around the world. Although Jibhi is now getting fairly popular amongst tourist, it remains far from the commercial touch. The beauty will leave you spellbound.

What to do? Hike around, check out the Sheshnag temple, en route to the Jalori Pass, get your hands on trout fishing or bird watching and enjoy a lakeside picnic.

5.   Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

Ziro, ziro, ziro - my list would have been incomplete without this beautiful and peace seeker's paradise. No matter where you go, you’ll keep coming back to this World Heritage Site. Ziro is known for its natural beauty, pine trees as well as the rice fields.

What to do? Visit the Meghna Cave Temple for its amazing views, trail the Pine Groove, take a nature walk at the Mandhapha National park, lose yourself at the Shiva Linga temple and also trek at the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary for its flora and fauna.
