Summers are not kind to Delhi. The temperatures during summers can rise to a point where it can become almost unbearable. Thankfully, there are places around Delhi, where the Indian summers are not as troublesome. Here is a list of some of my favorite summer destinations around Delhi.

Mussoorie

Distance from Delhi- 279 km

It’s impossible to talk about the hill stations near Delhi and not to mention Mussoorie. It’s the nearest hill station to Delhi and hence one of the most frequented ones by the people living in Delhi. It was established by a British officer, who came here to hunt. Its beauty captivated him and soon other high ranking people during the colonial regime started frequenting it. Mussoorie is often referred to as the ‘Queen of the hills’, and with one look around you will understand why. Situated at an altitude of 6500 feet, it has an extremely pleasant summer season with cool breeze and clear skies. It’s a perfect place for anyone who loves nature, going hiking and capturing stunning views of the mountains around, will love this place.  

Nainital

Distance from Delhi- 287 km

Located at an elevation of 6830 feet, it is an extremely popular hill station near Delhi. People from all around the country visit it with their family, friends, and partner for a memorable time. Built by the British, on the lines of Cumbrian Lake District, Nainital is set in a valley around an eye-shaped lake. Bustling markets with a spectacular view of the hills around, makes Nainital a perfect gateway to the upper reaches of the Himalayas. With the Jim Corbett National Park just a two-hour drive from here, plenty of tourists flock here at peak season which usually lasts from March to July every year.

Ranikhet

Distance from Delhi- 338 km

Ranikhet is located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, and it offers a captivating view of the snow-clad mountains around. Incredibly green and peaceful, it can be visited for a much-needed break from the usual life of a city. Thanks to its elevation of 6100 feet, the summers are always pleasant here. Take a walk around to spot the old-fashioned and charming British estates surrounded by gardens full of colorful flowers. Ranikhet’s neat and well-maintained ambiance makes it feel like a pollution-free and green tourist destination.

Chail

Distance from Delhi- 340 km

Situated at a height of about 7300 feet, this small hamlet in Himachal Pradesh is home to the highest cricket field in the world. It’s relatively calmer here as compared to some of the commercialized hill stations in the Himalayas. With its majestic snow-capped peaks, beautiful orchards, and sylvan pine valleys, it has all the makings of an ideal hill station for a family holiday or a romantic retreat.

Auli

Distance from Delhi- 364 km

Situated at an elevation of 10000 feet, Auli is one of the coldest hill stations near Delhi. The best time to visit Auli is round the year. Auli is often called the Switzerland of India. The thrilling winter sports Skiing, happens to be a must experience when in Auli. There is no dearth of snow in Auli round the year. With the astonishing Himalayas in the backdrop, Auli serves as a perfect destination to enjoy skiing for adventure seekers from all around the country.
